A few quick hits for this morning...

On the Habs...

Word's out the Canadiens are looking like they are finally addressing the concern on defense. You won't find a bigger fan of PK Subban than myself. If every NHL player was like PK Subban the NHL would be the most popular sports league on earth. And Markov is a great player. A definitive All-Star, no matter who's picking, but he is at best injury-proned, at worst a problem.

Yesterday the Habs traded O'Byrne to the Avs for a prospect. Now I was never a huge O'Byrne fan, but the Habs aren't really in the position to go trading a D-man with size unless there is something else on the horizon. You can be assured the Habs front office remembers how the ability to fight off bigger forwards in front was the eventual downfall last year.

The two names I am hearing are of course Bieksa and also, Robyn Regehr.

One source told me..."There is a deal in the works. 95% done."

And also on Regehr...

The Sabres are another team who have looked into Regehr. Rumors of the Sabres having interest (eventually) in Iginla were all the talk last week, and as I said...that deal is a ways off...if at all, but the Flames have interest in Derek Roy...

Backes will be Back...

The Blues have extended Backes...great move. This nucleus is strong and even with injuries the Blues are still 8-1-1 in their last ten..

Jeff Carter's Statement...

Last night's hattrick was no accident. I can guarantee you the fact Claude Giroux was extended was in no small way the impetus for Carter's breakout performance. The game was the perfect example of what I love and hate about Jeff Carter's game.

I have said this many times and Leaf fans can relate to this. Jeff Carter is Mats Sundin. When he plays to the net and skates hard he can make other players out there look like boys. When he skates wide and tries to make plays (see Joe Thornton) he is a better than average player...but can disappear for nights on end.

The Flyers are working on Carter's deal...as well as Ville Leino's.

Leafs look to Kadri...

Give the people what they want...but Kadri is not the issue right now in Toronto.
