The Red Wings Andreas Athanasiou is a potential star in this league. There is no doubt. There are few more dynamic players who score more fantastic, highlight-reel-goals, than he does. And the Red Wings are in need of scoring and young talent...so..why does it look like Athanasiou is heading to the KHL?
Negotiations are simply not going well and a one year deal in the KHL is calling this London, Ontario native...or is this a negotiation ploy? I would usually call "Ploy" in this situation but something about this feels different... Perhaps the money and the chance to play for Canada in the Olympics is enough for one year here...Athanasiou is the kind of player who could dramatically raise his value with a strong olympics..
The Red Wings are in a tough spot..Athanasiou is an RFA...
This kid put up great numbers actually per time on ice...and he obviously isn't thrilled with his ice-time....one source noted the Wings may actually move the RFA in a bigger deal...He does seem like the kind of player the Avalanche are looking for as part of a package for Duchene...
