The Isles didn't get the same outcome as they did in Brooklyn, but they did have to take this one all the way to the shoot-out as well.

The Devils scored on Halak early on a power play goal by --- Mike Cammalleri.

Strome lead the Isles in shots with four, trying to show Jack Capuano he took their conversation to heart. Although he did miss a wide open net.

The Isles dominated in the second period holding the Devils at bay for 17 minutes. An Islander goal didn't come until the third period when Scott Mayfield's shot was deflected by Kael Mouillierat at 4:51. (and Boulton had an assist. too bad it won't really count.) And there the score would stay, even with veteran Jaromir Jagr in the Devils' line-up.

The coaching staff had to be happy with the outcome and work of this group filled with guys trying to make the line-up. One of those is Ryan Strome. When Jack was asked about Strome in the post game presser, he was honest.

"I would say his last two games were stronge. He was one of our best defensive players tonight. The last two were breakout games for him." When asked about their "conversation," Jack classified it as "Casual." He explained, "...They understand there are a lot of players here who want to be part of the team. We knew that he had more to give. That's all it was. He responded well. You don't have to confront players. He's still young, he's still learning. He responded well."

Jack was pleased with Halak's game, his last of this preseason schedule, commenting that the first 12 minutes of the first he came up big for them. Travis Hamonic even called Jaro "a brick wall."

Halak is a little less complimentary of his play, even though he made 21 saves.

"Funny things happen. The goals we gave up, (last game) I trip on my lace. Stuff happens. Glad it happen in pre-season. I felt good out there. I still need to work on my game, but the upcoming practices I'll be able to do it. It only takes a little bit, early in the season to get going. But I'll work hard in practices and approach every practice like it's a game."

Had Frans Nielsen not played around with his signature move in the shoot-out, this game would have been theirs. This one's on you Frans.
