Wild Need to Take a Page From Predators

The Minnesota Wild have been the same old for far too long. In order to take the next step there needs to be an infusion of new attitude.

Just take a look at the Nashville Predators, they have been mired in the just qualify for the playoffs, then lose in the first round, or the occasional second round exit for more than a decade.

They finally started to make changes starting in 2014 when they relieved Barry Trotz of his coaching duties, brining in Peter Laviolette. Laviolette brought with him a new approach with a more up tempo style of offense to compliment an already strong defensive team. He also came along with a winning pedigree, having guided the 2006 Carpolina Hurricanes to the Stanley Cup, as well as also leading the Cinderella, Philadelphia Flyers to the 2010 Cup Final.

The team improved in each of Laviolette's first two seasons behind the Predator bench, but in order to take the next step, a major shakeup was necessary. that of course took place when Preds GM, David Poile, made the blockbuster move, trading the long time franchise player, and captain, Shea Weber to Canadiens, in exchange for PK Subban.

Changing the face of the franchise is a necessity for the Wild in order for them to truly take the next step. Having the leadership team say they like the makeup of the team, but are unhappy with the past results are contradictory statements.

I have said it many times in my blogs that this team needs new leadership, and the only way that can occur is to shake up the mix.

The moves do not need to be sweeping, but do need to be dramatic. There needs to be a new voice, a new focus for this core group to really tap their potential when the games matter most.

Chuck Fletcher these next few weeks are critical to the future of the Minnesota Wild.
