Solid Preds Pickup

The Nashville Predators announced the signing of free-agent forward Martin Gelinas today to a one year contract for a reasonable 1.25 million (US).

Adding a veteran with a Cup ring and three other trips to the finals certainly will help the Predators as they appear to be stocking this team for success in the playoffs, not necessarily a dominating regular season.

Gelinas has 640 points (300g-340a) over an 18 year NHL career and has turned in solid seasons over the past two years in Florida. His experience and leadership will be a nice add to the Preds locker room... especially come playoff time. The team will be able to lean on his 147 games of playoff experience.

While not making the splash this year that he has in the last two, David Poile continues to build a Predator team that will be harder working and tougher than previous versions. As exciting as the team was to watch in the regular season for the past two seasons, they just did not seem to have the toughness to survive in the playoffs. Poile is making solid moves to address this.
