I just got confirmation that the trade between the Sens and Bruins is done and it is a straight up trade. 1 for 1. This is a move that looks to be a setup move for either a Heatley extension or an Emery deal. The Sens pick up over a million in cap space in this deal. That being said, I think both players may just thrive in their new surroundings...

Update at 10:30 am...I Just talked to a source that confirmed for me that the Canadiens are looking hard at Zherdev. What do you habs fans think?

Also yesterday saw a slew of players signing for the minimun contract, further putting the squeeze on quite a few of our top 40 remaining UFA.

Another player to be added to my top 40 based on the interest he is drawing is Josef Melichar. I am hearing the Wings, Islanders, and Blue Jackets are showing interest.

Leafs fans will be happy to know that although it is virtually impossible to replace Gus in our Blogging the NHL section we will be having a new blogger for you shortly.

All around great guy and ex-NHLer Tom Fitzgerald has been named Director of Player Development for the Penguins today.
