I don't think the suspension is long enough and believe it should have been at least 10 games. Whether Gustav Nyquist has a history or not, you simply can't stick a player in the face with that much force and only sit out two weeks as a result. That was very close to Jared Spurgeon's eye, in which case a very serious injury could have occurred. I believe in basing suspension length on the action and not the end result. If Spurgeon suffered a serious eye injury, the suspension would have inarguably been much longer. So, because the stick hit Spurgeon an inch lower Nyquist gets off much easier. That doesn't make sense to me.

Obviously not. I don't really know what to say about this because it's been beaten into the ground so much already - the NHL doesn't care about player safety. Whether it's Gary Bettman's Trump-like take on concussions or pathetic suspensions like this, what are you supposed to say?
A millionaire doesn't care if he loses six games worth of pay and pays a relatively small fine. An NHL player would probably enjoy six games off to heal leading up to the stretch run or Playoffs (not like Detroit is going anyways, but still....)
I guess at the end of the day if you can make a buck, who cares how injured people get. That is the message I take from the NHL.

In any language, it looks utterly ridiculous. And that's what this suspension was. Who cares what intent was there, he went full Clarence 'Screaming Buffalo' Swampton on him. That's this guy.
DPOS needs to get a grip on what is going to be a deterrent. Instead on worrying about what is 'fair'. You injure a guy and he misses 20 games, so do you. That's fair. That's even. That's a deterrent.
