Tarnstrom an Oiler

This was a harmless enough rumor. It had been hanging out there for a few weeks and I had been told earlier this week from a source within the organization that the deal was, in fact, done. When I had Craig MacTavish on my show tonight, I had no intention of asking him about the rumor...figured I'd just let it come to fruition later this weekend. However, when I asked him about the number of bodies on defense I got a very articulate answer (as always) from MacT...which included this nugget:

"You can't lose sight of the fact that we've added Dick Tarnstrom. You know, he wanted to go back to Europe last year and now has committed to coming back here."

I followed up on it, naturally, and he discussed the virtues of having a guy like that on the blue-line who possesses some of the skills that the team sorely missed last season. I'm not sure if this can be signed, sealed and delivered prior to July 1st...but the cat is most certainly out of the bag...the terms are obviously agreed upon.

I'm not sure on money or term, but I'm positive that it's a step in the right direction. Is he the savior on the back end? Nope. Is he a guy that can move the puck and play 2nd unit powerplay (including injury fill-in)? Yep. You can never have too many of those guys...
