The Denver Post’s Terry Frei reports that Colorado GM Joe Sakic has been accompanying the Avs as they swing through the East.

Sakic was at Madison Square Garden for his club’s game with the Rangers and while Colorado played in Brooklyn, the Avs GM travelled to Boston to watch the Habs – Bruins game and was seen speaking to GM Don Sweeney and the Beanpot final between Boston U. and Harvard on Monday.

THE BUZZ – Sakic is doing his due diligence before the deadline, but that is no guarantee that he will find a team to give him the package he is looking for in a deal for Matt Duchene or Gabriel Landeskog.

There have been rumors connecting the Bruins and Avs regarding Landeskog, but the name of rookie defenseman Brandon Carlo continues to be attached and that is not a player that
Sweeney is likely to move, since the Bruins defense is a weak spot with an aging Zdeno Chara.

Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston reports that Jaroslav Halak has 10 straight wins and a .929 save percentage for the AHL Bridgeport Sound Tigers after being waived last month and that the veteran goaltender could be an option on the goalie trade market

THE BUZZ – There are a few teams that are in need of some goaltending, but San Jose, Columbus and Boston are looking for backup help and Halak’s $4.5 Million contract with another year remaining is a complicating factor.

The Islanders could choose to retain salary on Halak for this and next season to make a deal more favorable, since a buyout would spread the cap ramifications over the next two seasons.
