In response to fan questions, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News says that the Stars fan base is hoping for GM Jim Nill to become a big seller before March 1, instead of holding onto a number of expiring contracts in the pursuit of a playoff spot.

Besides big ticket items like Patrick Sharp and Johnny Oduya, Dallas has more economical pending UFA's who could be sought after commodities.

"Because so many teams are up against the cap, I think players like Patrick Eaves ($1 million), Lauri Korpikoski ($1 million) and even Jiri Hudler ($2 million) could be gold at the trade deadline."

THE BUZZ – The Stars lost to the Ottawa Senators on Thursday, putting them eight points out of a Western Conference wild card spot. Nill is a realist and has to see that Dallas is too far out to have a legitimate chance at the post-season.

Sharp will be an attractive get with his Stanley Cup experience, but his $5.9 Million salary will be tough to squeeze under most contender's salary caps. Defenseman Johnny Oduya is currently injured, but Eaves (having a career year with 19 goals) and role players like Korpikoski and Hudler could yield a bevy of draft picks.
