On HNIC’s Saturday Night Headlines, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports that the Edmonton Oilers maybe shopping defenseman Brandon Davidson. The Oilers do not want to lose the young blueliner in the Expansion Draft and he believes that there is some interest around the league in him.

THE BUZZ – Edmonton has to protect Andrej Sekera(who has a no movement clause), Darnell Nurse is exempt and will protect Oscar Klefbom and Adam Larsson, so short of protecting eight skaters, Davidson will be exposed.

The 25-year-old defenseman may be attractive to team is looking for young depth and he does qualify to be exposed in the expansion draft, since he is played over 70 games over the last two seasons.

In Sunday’s Ottawa Sun, Bruce Garrioch reports that the Coyotes are getting inquiries for Shane Doan, but that they are limited by the veteran’s desire to stay close to Arizona.

“The San Jose Sharks have tried desperately to get Doan the last four or five years at the deadline only to be rebuffed by the Coyotes and they are currently taking another run.

Arizona is listening because that’s the way Doan wants it but the market is limited because he doesn’t want to go far. We’re told the top three contenders for Doan are San Jose, Anaheim and Los Angeles.”

THE BUZZ – GM John Chayka may not get the best return he could for Doan, but that is better than no return since the 40-year-old has a no-movement clause.

Doan is on pace to score in single digits for the first time in the 21st Century and will likely retire after this season, but could be a valuable add for the Sharks or Ducks, who have a good chance of being the West’s representatives in the Cup Final.
