The New Jersey Devils made a roster move today placing forward Luke Gazdic on waivers.

The 27-year-old winger, he of 146 NHL games, has played in 10 games for the Devils this season and has been held pointless. He has only dressed four times since the turn of the calendar with his last game coming January 24th against Los Angeles.

There is no guarantee he is assigned to Albany if he clears but that would seem the likely scenario if and when the likes of Beau Bennett and Andy Greene are given a clean bill of healthy and deemed ready to play.

In the event Gazdic clears, and the Devils elect to keep him around, they would not need to waive him again should they decide to assign him to Albany at some point over the next 30 days.

In other words, when everyone is healthy they can send him down without going through any sort of process.

The sample size is small but the Devils have controlled just 29% of the shot attempts and 28% of the scoring chances with Gazdic on the ice at 5v5. Those are truly abysmal numbers and help illustrate how out of place he has looked when given the chance to play.

If and when he clears, he should be sent to Albany but I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of Gazdic just yet. We'll find out soon if that's the case.
