Pavelec To Start Tonight in Dallas

Paul Maurice called his shot and Ondrej Pavelec will start tonight against the Stars as the Jets look to win three games in a row for the first time this season. It's a curious move as while Pavelec may have had the win in St. Louis his numbers, despite the odd goals allowed, still don't support that the Jets are 'stabilized' by the goaltending.

Would it be too far to suggest that the coach and organization are almost going too far in their treating of Connor Hellebuyck as a fine piece of porcelain? Certainly Hellebuyck needs work and practice but he also needs games too. He needs to put practice into performance and tonight seems like a better opportunity than Saturday versus Colorado.

Consider the way the Jets have played the Avalanche or any team that appears the 'lesser' to them. Throw in the wrong goalie with the amount of opinions and eyes watching him and the pressure becomes enough to make a diamond, or at least a piece of cubic zirconia.

Mathew Perreault looks to be a game time decision and Drew Stafford appears to be missing another game. After that it's business as usual for the Jets as they continue their road trip through the central with a three goalie system.

Much talk has been made of the Jets looking to the waiver wire to help bolster their bottom pairings on defence. First Montreal placed Zach Redmond on waivers and then Mark Barberio.

Here's why the Jets should be interested in acquiring Barberio and sending either of Chiarot or Postma down to the Moose.

Barberio

Postma

Chiarot

There's really no downside and if Tyler Myers does come back he is going to need time to get into game pace play so starting him in the bottom pairing is not such a bad thing. Even on his off wing he's surely an improvement over Stuart right?

Regardless of what the Jets do, the issue at hand is wins and should they get one tonight it still helps keep the dream of a playoff appearance alive- regardless of any other concerns may lie with the team. Right now, that's all most fans want to focus on while there's still a chance.
