Huge Milestone For Sidney Crosby With A Canada Victory Tonight

We may see the conclusion of the first World Cup of Hockey since the 2004 season this evening. If Canada is victorious they will have won the World/Canada Cup six out of the eight times it has been put on. Only the Soviet Union in 1981 and the United States in 1996 have found a way to stop Canada in these non IIHF tournaments.

A win by Canada also adds to the legacy of Sidney Crosby. He would be the only player in the history of hockey to win Olympic Gold, Stanley Cup, World Championship Gold, World Jr. Gold, World Cup Gold, Hart Trophy, Ted Lindsay Award, Rocket Richard, Conn Smythe and Hart Trophy. All before the age of 30. Wow.

If Canada does win Sidney Crosby will have had a huge role in the team's success. He is the #1 center and leads the tournament in scoring with nine points. This may also be the last time we get to see the Crosby-Bergeron-Marchand line in action. Crosby and Bergeron are locks for the next Team Canada, but Marchand will have to continue to put up seasons like he did last year (37 goals). If it is the last hurrah we were lucky to have it at all. They have been splendid.

How can Europe extend the series? I happen to agree with Thomas Vanek on this topic

I don't see perfection in the cards for Europe.

If this is the last game of the tournament I would like to say that I found it to be a great way to fill the month of September. In a month that is normally bogged down with training camp stories about players who aren't aren't likely to ever make it in the NHL the World Cup of Hockey was a great change of pace. I believe there is more than enough room on the schedule for both the World Cup of Hockey and the Winter Olympics. The players seem to want to be involved with both so let's make that happen.
