Tampa Bay will open its season at home on Oct. 13 against the Detroit Red Wings as the full 2016-17 schedule was released by the league on Tuesday.

The first game of the season opens a four-game home stand to begin the season with games against New Jersey (Oct. 15), Florida (Oct. 18) and Colorado (Oct 20) kicks off the season. That opening stretch of home games is followed by a six-game road trip from Oct. 22 to Nov. 1 that rolls through Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, New Jersey followed by the two metro New York teams, at Madison Square Garden and at Barclays Center.

The Lightning will play 14 sets of back-to-back games during the season.

The All-Star break comes in the final week of January when the All-Star game will be hosted by Los Angeles on Jan. 28-29.

A new quirk in the schedule this season is all teams will get a "bye week'', a break in the schedule where each team gets an entire week off before games. That break for Tampa Bay comes Feb. 11-18 when the Lightning will not play any games from Feb. 12-17. The five-day period breaks up a four-game road trip with the first two games at Minnesota and Winnipeg (Feb. 10-11) followed by games at Dallas and Colorado. Feb. 18-19.

Overall Tampa Bay will play 18 of the final 31 games at home while 41 percent of the Lightning's road games will be played on three road trips of five-or-more games. There will also be five matinee games that start at 1 p.m., all of them coming on the road.
