MELTZER'S MUSINGS: APRIL 30, 2016

1) If the Nashville Predators advance past the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Philadelphia Flyers will pick 17th in the first round of the 2016 NHL Draft. Philly owns two second round picks; its own and the Chicago Blackhawks' (Kimmo Timonen trade). The Flyers have their own third-round pick as well as the LA Kings' (Vincent Lecavalier and Luke Schenn trade).

The Flyers have their own fourth-round pick. They hold a conditional pick from Arizona (Chris Pronger and Nicklas Grossmann trade), giving the Coyotes the option of either sending a fourth-round pick in 2016 (if Arizona, which does not have its own fourth-rounder, were to acquire another team's) or a third-round selection in 2017 at its own choosing.

The Flyers hold their own fifth-, sixth-, and seventh-round picks as well. In round six, they also have the Los Angeles Kings' pick (as a result of a pick-shuffling trade with LA at last year's draft).

In total, the Flyers will have 10 picks in the seven-round draft; 11 if the Coyotes were to get a fourth-rounder and opt to complete its obligation to the Flyers this year rather than yielding its third-rounder next year.

2) The Brandon Wheat Kings have advanced to the Western Hockey League championship finals with a 5-2 home win over the Red Deer Rebels on Friday night. Ivan Provorov, the Flyers' 2015 first-round pick, did not record a point. He was plus-one and took a coincidental minor penalty (roughing) along with Red Deer's Braden Purtill (holding the stick) late in the second period. The Wheaties will play the Seattle Thunderbirds in the finals.

3) QMJHL: The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies were unable to close out their semifinal series with the Moncton Wildcats on Friday night, dropping a 2-1 decision on home ice on Friday. Flyers defense prospect Philippe Myers assisting on the lone Huskies goal, was credited with six hits, three shot attempts, and a plus-one. Game Six will be in Moncton on Sunday.

4) QMJHL: The Saint John Sea Dogs went down to a 6-3 defeat to the Shawinigan Cataractes on Friday night and were eliminated from the playoffs in five semifinal games. Flyers prospect Samuel Dove-McFalls did not record a point, went 12-for-18 on faceoffs, was credited with two hits and was minus-two. For the playoffs, Dove-McFalls finishes with seven points (six goals, one assist), two power play tallies, and two penalty minutes in 17 games.
