VIP Tickets are almost gone but there are plenty of good seats remaining! Tickets are now on sale for the SlapShot Radio Cook Off. Predators forward Eric Nystrom and I will be battling it out at The Chef and I in Lenox Village on Monday night, March 23rd. If you have never been to The Chef and I, it is an “open kitchen” restaurant that allows you to watch the chef create your dinner! An incredible, accessible and unique experience. Eric and I will be taking over the show kitchen to compete in an “Iron Chef” like battle to win the Cup!

The Measuring Cup that is…

It’s all to raise money for the Nashville Predators Foundation and should be a lot of fun! Tickets are on sale at our EventBrite site all tickets include a three course gourmet meal prepared by Chef Chris Rains. There is VIP Seating available that includes a ring side seat for all the action!

Pred Nation’s trip down the rabbit hole continued last night as the Predators dropped their fourth consecutive game 3-1 to the New Jersey Devils. Two Devils goals in the first 3:57 of the game and that was all she wrote.

A great quote from new daddy Mike Fisher post game - "This happens to every team and the concern is if you don't grow or learn from it; we need to find a way because come playoffs we'll have adversity and we'll have to find ways. This is where you really learn. No one wants to be here but when you are here you have to fight through it, get through it and maybe you'll remember how to do it next time."
The lessons that need to be learned? I’ve got a couple of suggestions…

- You can’t keep playing from behind - The Predators have gotten into a nasty habit of slow starts. Last night, they gave up the first goal of the game for the ninth consecutive game. In November and December, the team would come back and took pride in their ability… now it’s biting them in the butt. Playoff hockey is starting to ramp up… you gotta burn from the drop

Other teams watch film - and because of that, they have figured out the Predators offense. Time to try some different things, time to get a little more creative and do some things that are unexpected. Predictability is death.

Relax - Well, that seems counter-intuitive, but squeezing the stick harder won’t help.

Again… the effort is there… it just needs to be there from puck drop. The team is still on top of the league standings, which is something, considering that they have lost four in a row and six of their last seven, but everyone chasing them has games in hand now and the cushion is gone.

Nashville is home tomorrow against the New York Islanders.

The drama in Toronto continues… Phil Kessel has finally had enough and let the Toronto media know it yesterday. And the butthurt reaction from that media is predictably hysterical. God forbid someone actually call out someone in the pack that follows the Leafs for their bad behavior. Kessel said that “a lot of the media should be embarrassed.”

Let the choir say amen!

Here’s the fun part… instead of taking a look inward, actually looking at some of the silly, immature, ridiculous crap that has gone on between the media and the people they are supposed to cover in an unbiased way… what happens? The headlines scream “Kessel Rips Media” … columns begin with the line “To begin the day, Phil Kessel exploded.” Exploded! He must have gone nuts… throwing things, shouting, screaming cursing… y’know… using that verbiage sends that message.

Here is a link to the video of Kessel’s “explosion.” It’s a fairly calm, very rational explanation of Kessel’s frustration with the often wrong and wrong-headed reporting that comes out of the Toronto media. I’ve watched it a few times and I am still wondering where the explosion was.

Perhaps it was an explosion, at least in the eyes of the media, because Phil Kessel was right in his criticism… and heaven forbid you criticize the media, they will fall on you like a pack of jackals. I am so incredibly tired of media in general making it about them. Guess what… the Toronto sports media has jobs because of the Maple Leafs, Marlies, Blue Jays and Raptors. It is not the other way around…

If the Globe and Mail or Toronto Star stop publishing today, guess what would happen… The Leafs still would play in Tampa Bay tomorrow, Amalie Arena would still be packed, the vendors would still be selling overpriced beer and food and a good time would be had by all. In other words… nothing.

I am not saying that the media does not serve an important purpose, they should be there as a check and balance. That being said… The NHL and its players do not exist to serve the media and they shouldn’t exist to serve the media. Neither should any other entity, sports or otherwise. What all the players in this silly little drama need to realize is that there is one key demographic in all of this that are not being served… the fan. The fan counts on the media for an unbiased, no agenda take on the situation… that is where this situation falls woefully short. Want an example?
