Rangers and Staal Agree to Agree....
Its a good deal for the NY Rangers and Marc Staal. There is no doubt Staal would land above 6M on the open market in July, so to get him under 6 for 6 years with a three year full NMC is not a bad play by the Rangers.
And this doesn't mean that Marc isn't still destined to be reunited with his brothers in Carolina...it just means he can control that move. From Carolina's perspective this could eventually make him more attractive to a trade as well. And for now...while Carolina is deep in a rebuild...Marc Staal can play on one of the best teams in the NHL...win/win/win.
On Lupul....
I am hearing the Leafs are talking to Dallas about Lupul...My source tells me that this could be just a part of a bigger deal these teams have been discussion for some time now.
On Vermette...
The Rangers may have tied up Marc Staal, but they are far from finished fine-tuning this version of the team...They have officially entered into the sweeps along with Nashville, Winnipeg, and to a small extent Boston
On O'Reilly....
Starting to look like a two horse race here...Toronto and Phoneix...both teams have the young D required to make the deal and both teams need the punch O'Reilly can bring to the table...
