With all the rumors coming out of Carolina over the past few weeks in regards to possibly trading Eric Staal, I am now hearing the Hurricanes may actually be increasing their roster by a Staal.

Things are starting to get dicey with Mark Staal in NY and sources tell me the Canes and Rangers have begun some preliminary discussions regarding a move that could bring a fourth Stall brother to the Carolinas(youngest brother Jared is with the Canes AHL affiliate in Charlotte). The early volleys however are an indication that the Rangers want quite a lot, as they should for the pending free agent defenseman.

One source described it as, "Justin Faulk is the main target, Jeff Skinner their fallback, but only if the Rangers manage to pick up another defenseman along the way."

I don't give the impression that this an imminent deal, more like posturing at this point and preparing...

On the Oilers...

On the other hand the Oilers are getting much closer to making a deal. There were some serious rumors last week floating around that Dallas Eakins time has grown very short and a few sources close to Dan Bylsma were hearing his name mentioned as a possible replacement in Edmonton.

A source in Edmonton describe the situation to me this way…

"The Oilers are steadfastly behind Eakins until they're not. There is no grey. Is black-and-white... Win one, lose one or win four, lose four... either way you are .500. They were doing well and now have injuries and suspensions etc...."

But make no mistake about it the Oilers are trying to make a move. They continue to talk to Philadelphia, Detroit, the NY Islanders, and the Sabres...even Boston.

Source last night describe the Oilers as looking "runnerish." In other words like a baseball player taking a lead from first base in preparation to steal. Teams are ready for this and he said he wouldn't be surprised at any moment to see a major move on the player front.

More to come…

Also let me add as an aside, thanks from the well wishes in regards to my back injury. I'm feeling a lot better today and time will tell if I have to have further surgery, but for now it's nice to not be in constant pain. I got so many messages and e-mails with advice and wishing me well. It really is inspiring to know there are so many good people out there.

Cheers!
