The rumors are starting to trickle in for training camp tryout invitations. So far we have heard Simon Gagne's name mentioned as a Bruins invite, Ryan Malone possibly heading to Philly or Pittsburgh for a tryout, Dustin Penner linked to Philly, NJ, and Montreal and Ville Leino to San Jose or Chicago.

I also have heard Setoguchi got a deal out of Calgary because quite a few teams were offering him a tryout invite. Even Marty Brodeur may appear at a camp tryout on the Island... that possibility is remote, but still it is out there.

I am working on a blog tomorrow that will list my top camp tryout players and where I hear they could be headed as well as where I think they make the most sense.

Each year players who were passed over in July end up in various camps...on a tryout.

Sometimes they will be at a camp and sign with another team. You hear stories of guys leaving right in the middle of a practice or scrimmage. A camp invite owes nothing to the team and the team owes nothing to him.

Sometimes camp invites find their way onto rosters and even successful seasons that make them valuable the following UFA year...see Mason Raymond. Camp invites are a great thing for aging veterans and a horrible monkey wrench for rookies who suddenly have to compete with established players for the final precious spots.

And beyond the veterans you will also see several junior players who were passed over at the draft get camp invites...the latest I heard today is former Kelona Rockets goalie Jordan Cooke, who just got a camp invite to the LA Kings after looking impressive in rookie scrimmages in California.

We will discuss these players as well as delve into the Maple Leafs management, the Sens Goalie signings and the draft lottery changes on today's HockeybuzzCast at 1pm ET
