Some quick hits on this Monday..

With Kris Letang now apparently on the open market, the Tyler Myers sweepstakes has jumped up to a new level from what I have heard.

The price for Myers (or Letang) is very high, but the upside is even higher. At least six teams have already talked Sabres about acquiring the giant defenseman, who has had lots of ups and downs in his still-young career but has immense potential. The most surprising team on that list may be the Chicago Blackhawks who already have cap issues and look to be set on defense. However there is little doubt that the Detroit Red Wings are leading the way and pushing the hardest to get something done. Other teams that are interested include the San Jose Sharks, the (cap-ceiling challenged) Philadelphia Flyers, and the New Jersey Devils.

Last week I was thinking the chances of Myers getting traded were around 20%, but on this Monday I'm putting it closer to 50-50. It would be even higher, but there haven't been many trades in recent years involving big-name defensemen. Teams try to hang on to the ones they have, if possible, but if the price is right.... well, you know.

On Big Joe and the Jets...

To continue the trend in rather surprising rumors on this day, the Winnipeg Jets are rumored to be trying to woo Joe Thorton. You can definitely see the fit here, and of course everyone will question whether or not Joe will play in Winnipeg, but all in all I trust my sources that there is at least some potential fire to the smoke of this rumor. I will definitely be looking into it as the day goes on.
