The Blockbuster That Wasn't: Rob Blake for Nabokov

More Rumors of Rumours Today:

As I go through my notes leading up to the deadline I came across this gem. When I was first told about it I was skeptical, but since Tuesday I have talked to three separate sources who have all confirmed it. Rob Blake was very nearly dealt to the Sharks for Nabokov. The original source that told me about it, confirmed it again today adding he is "100% certain that it was talked about." Another source told me it was "done had Toskala's health been more certain, and that was the reason for the Rob Blake speculation”. Remember the night before the Tkachuk deal when RDS reported he had waived it and we reported he hadn't?

It is interesting to consider how this trade would have changed the balance of power in the West, and maybe even the East? One source feels that "Guerin would have ended up in Buffalo I believe if that trade went down."

What are your thoughts?

+++++

What a great day of hockey watching yesterday. I have to admit that I didn't watch much hockey for the past several weeks going into the deadline, but it is so good for the soul to sit back and enjoy the game again

With the spacing of the games I watch Pittsburgh/Philly go to a shootout, Havlat and Chicago beat the former team, The Sens, in a shootout. Then I flipped to the Bruins/Devils game where I watched the "never-say-die" B's soundly defeat the team many are now saying could come out of the East, NJ. Next I watched four of the eight playoff teams in the West battle it out. Both games tooth and nail contests, both going to shootouts as well with Anaheim beating Nashville and Vancouver topping the Wild....It was 13 hours straight of hockey...

Good for what ails you!
