The Uniteds States men's hockey team sank quietly into oblivion, much like the Titanic did over 100 years ago. Team Finland, led by Anaheim Ducks legend Teemu Selanne, erased all Olympic medal hopes for the Americans with a 5-0 drubbing.

I wasn't surprised by the result, but I was surprised by the score....that is until I heard about the impassioned pregame speech Selanne gave to his fellow country men. Teemu, a six-time Olympian, reminded his teammates that winning a medal, any medal, is a great honor.

Finland responded to the speech and Selanne followed up his words with his actions by scoring two goals. In the end, it was the Americans that didn't show up and as a result left a black-eye on American hockey.

Boo hoo for Team USA.

For me it was great pleasure to see Selanne shine. I have been very critical of him this season. It's obvious his age is catching up to him....BUT, he still has that "it" factor. He still has that ability to make his teammates better, both in Anaheim and for Finland. He still has that ability to make you shake your head and marvel. Now,

I'm happy for him and I'm happy for the Finns, the Swedes and of course Team Canada.

As far as the Americans go, I guess any team led by Zach Parise is bound to come up a bit short.

Selanne must do this for the Ducks as they put the pedal to the metal in search of another Stanley Cup title. Now let's put this Olympic break behind up and get back to work!

Go Ducks!
