Quick will start over Ryan Miller

After much debate from fans over who should get the start for Team USA between the pipes, today they got an answer.

Jonathan Quick will take the ice to open the tournament as the starter for Team USA's first group match against Slovakia.

The reaction to the decision has been seemingly split down the middle, with many fans pointing at Quick's rather subpar numbers over the last year and a half of regular season NHL play. Miller, on the other hand, has been a stalwart for a bottom of the league Sabres team and also backstopped the Americans to a silver medal in Vancouver with an MVP performance.

However, you can't argue with how Jonathan Quick has performed in high pressure situations. The 28-year old holds a stunning .940 save percentage and a 1.65 goals against average in the last two playoff runs with the Kings.

The decision couldn't have been easy for Bylsma and crew, and the opportunity for Miller to start other games in the group stages isn't out of the question.

In an Associated Press article on The Sporting News, Bylsma had the following to say,

"We're dealing with a position of strength when it comes to the goaltender decision,"

Miller also had the right mindset,

"He's a great goalie and he's going to do great for us," Miller said. "We'll see where it goes from here and I'll be ready to play."

And ready I think you should be Ryan Miller. It wouldn't surprise me to see them suit Miller up for at least one game in group stage.

Quick best look sharp in his opener if he wishes to hold the position though. Team USA faces Russia on Saturday which figures to be the decider on who wins the group and gets a bye into the knockout rounds.

As I know, our readers here have no shortage on opinions! Do you think it was the right decision for Bylsma to go with Quick? Hit the poll and comments section and share your thoughts.
