SAN JOSE -- The Sharks had two big question marks answered on Friday and the decision by general manager Doug Wilson to sign both Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau each to three year extensions paid immediate dividends.

Thornton with a rare two goal performance, as the Sharks outlasted the Minnesota Wild 3-2 in overtime. The victory extended Team Teal's win streak to a league high six games.

Team USA Olympic hopeful Joe Pavelski continues to add to his amazing season assisting on both Thornton goals in a rare role reversal.

After the win, Thornton said, "For me and Patty both to score, it's a great night for us. I don't shoot too often but Pavs made two good plays and lucky enough they went in."

And Marleau made the most of his scoring opportunity scoring 0:22 after Thornton's first goal with a shot in close on a nice pass from Tommy Wingels after Wingels shot attempt from the left circle was blocked.

The Wild just can't seem to beat the Sharks no matter how hard they try. In the third and final meeting of the season, Minnesota fell to 0-2-1. Credit though for the fact they had a two goal lead but just couldn't make it stand up.

Game highlights

Contenders

Joe Thornton-he's obviously the "point guard" when it comes to the incredible amount of assists he has in kickstarting the offense. He is a Wild killer amassing 33 points (10 goals, 23 assists) in 36 career games vs. Minnesota. It was Thornton's first two goal game since Jan. 31, 2012 vs. Columbus.

Joe Pavelski-two assists and has seven goals and three assists over a five game points streak.

Pretenders

Wild on faceoffs-Terrible percentage in the circle losing by a margin of 69 to 31 percent.

Minnesota coach Mike Yeo said it best,"We lost the extra point because of the faceoff circle tonight. We just spent the entire night chasing and it's inevitable it's eventually going to put you on your heels and give them some momentum. We never started with the puck and that was the big story."

The Sharks are back on home ice Monday night to face their nemesis, the LA Kings.
