The Oilers have traded Ladislav Smid to the Calgary Flames in exchange for Roman Horak and Laurent Brossoit.

Smid had 3 more years on his deal at 3.5 million per season. This move brings in a goalie that the Oilers are familiar with as Brossoit played for the Oil Kings when he was in the WHL. Horak has 41 points in 86 games for the AHL Heat.

This will open some Cap space for the Oilers who may opt to use it on goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov as early as tomorrow according to Darren Dreger. There have been all kinds of rumblings for Edmonton's camp so far. The feeling here is that there is something bigger coming on the horizon. The Oilers can ill afford to move out solid defensemen for magic beans.

This isn't the first deal between the two clubs, but it will still leave a bad taste in the mouth nonetheless.

Bob Stauffer has also stated that Olivier Roy may also be part of the package.

My head. It hurts.
