Grabner: Breakaway Bad

After Saturday night's game, a surprising win against the Bruins, I started to think about Michael Grabner's breakaway chances. While they are absolutely exciting to watch -- at first -- they become sadly disappointing.

This morning I decided to take a look at Grabner's stat sheet and did a Google search (of course) and found that none other than Kevin Schultz of Islanders Point Blank actually has a tracker for this stat. THANK YOU KEVIN! http://islanderspointblank.com/islanders/the-michael-grabner-breakaway-tracker/

So if you look at that, you can see Grabner's eight breakaway chances have earned him exactly ONE goal. As a matter of fact, looking at his stats, Grabner's shot percentage is between 12 and 15%.

Are teams going to get to a point where they just let him skate out without chasing him since he doesn't have much of a chance of scoring? The excitement could be doubled if he could actually finish.

So, I'm going to break my rule of never suggesting anything regarding actual on-ice play. How about any other Islander, ANY ISLANDER, skating after Grabner and while all the attention is on him, he can pass the puck back to someone who can actually shoot the puck.

The jet-packs on Grabner's skates don't really mean too much if all it does it tire out the opposing teams defense.

So the Islanders took yesterday off before an extended road trip. Capitals, Hurricane's, and back-to-back against the Blue Jackets and the Canadiens. They'll want to bring home as many points as possible while bringing home everyone in one piece.

I would love to know when Lubomir Visnovsky is scheduled to make his return. I think that he will have more of an affect (or is that Effect? Damn I always get those confused) than any other change to the Isles line-up.
