Some thoughts:

- The Devils were cooked in the faceoff dot again against a young, inexperienced team in the Flames. The Jets are another team that has struggled even more than the Devils in the dot and the expectation is that New Jersey should fare well in that regard tonight. Or at least be better than 43.5%.

- New Jersey's power play through five games: 10%. That needs to improve at least 5-6 percentage points if the Devils want to have any success this season.

- Through five games the Jets are a 45.1% possession team which ranks 27th in the NHL. New Jersey's 9th in the NHL in that regard at 52.3% and should be able to take advantage of all the extra shooting opportunities they'll generate.

-Loktionov looks to be back in the lineup after being a healthy scratch in Calgary. He's an offence-only type player and if he's not producing, he's likely not doing much else. The Devils will need more from him.

- Enstrom and Byfuglien both have six points in their first five games. The Jets have been known for their offence from the back end so the Devils will have to make sure they don't leave their defensive assignments and cover the points.

- After five games, the Devils haven't had much of a problem scoring goals. Keeping them out has been the issue. Their defence will need to minimize the amount of Grade A chances they're giving up and they'll need a strong effort from Schneider.

- As much as the Devils have struggled to this point, they're one point out of a playoff spot and still sit ahead of divisional teams like the New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals. Hard to believe, isn't it?
