The New Jersey Devils announced they've cut 21 players from their training camp roster.

There are some notables among the cuts, including a certain someone who scored 60+ goals in Sarnia last season.

To Albany: Maxime Clermont, Seth Helgeson, Dan Kelly, Raman Hrabarenka, Reid Boucher, Reece Scarlett, Riley Boychuk, Mike Hoeffel, Ben Thomson, Corbin McPherson, Harri Pesonen, Joe Whitney, Chris McKelvie, Darcy Zajac and David Wohlberg.

To Junior: Anthony Brodeur (Gatineau - QMJHL), Ryan Kujawinski (Kingston - OHL), Ben Johnson (Windsor - OHL), Remy Giftopoulos (Windsor - OHL), Graham Black (Swift Current - WHL) and Myles Bell (Kelowna - WHL).

A few quick thoughts:

- Of the players the Devils elected to send to Albany, three of them were eligible to return to their respective junior teams. Those three players were Boucher (Sarnia - OHL), Scarlett (Swift Current -WHL) and Ben Thomson (Kitchener - OHL). I was somewhat surprised to see Scarlett sent to Albany because of the amount of depth on defence the Devils have there, but he's a good prospect and looks ready for pro hockey.

- I'm really excited to see what Kujawinski can do in Kingston this season. They're a legitimate contender and they showed that last night when they beat a solid Peterborough Petes team 11-4 in Peterborough. Keep in mind that was without one of their top players in Kujawinski.

Kingston will have a very strong supporting cast for Kujawinski so I wouldn't be surprised if he scored 30 goals and picked up 70+ points this year.

- I think the Devils really need to move a defenseman or two out. Jon Merrill did some good things last night. Eric Gelinas played a team high 10:23 on the power play and had two assists. This coming just a few nights after scoring the game winner against the New York Rangers with a PP blast. Then there's Alex Urbom, who isn't as flashy as Merrill or Gelinas, but is strong defensively and played almost 25 minutes in his preseason debut.

The Devils only have room to keep one right now and based on what I've seen Gelinas will be that guy. In order for Merrill or Urbom to stick around - assuming Gelinas makes the team - Lou Lamoriello will have to move a body or two.

Is Martin Brodeur coming back next season? It sounds like he might be.
