Teemu Selanne Returning? Other Teams an Option?

The news of the day is that Teemu Selanne has accelerated his training regime in preparation for another season of NHL hockey. Notice I didn't say Anaheim Ducks hockey.

Selanne told a Finnish newspaper that he has three options for the upcoming season...

1. Return to the Ducks
2. Play for another team
3. Retire

The fact that retiring is the third option is very telling. It indicates that Selanne will more than likely play this season. The concerning part is that option number two is to play for a team other than Anaheim.

Selanne told Finnish outlet Iltalehti via Google Translation.

"In front is the biggest decision of my career. I have three options that I can choose from," Selanne said.

"Ridge options most likely to have continued in Anaheim. The other two options are to play in another NHL club or career termination."

There are some rumblings that money may be a factor is Selanne's hesitation to re-up with the Ducks. Anaheim GM Bob Murray said a couple of weeks ago that he wanted to make sure Teemu was 100% committed to a return. Did Murray low ball him to see just how committed the 43-year-old super star was? (My assumption)

If this is the case, it may come back to bite the Ducks in their tail feathers.Never mess with a legend like No. 8. Even into his 40's he is better than most "20-somethings" in the league.

It would be a shame to see Selanne ride off into the Finnish sunset wearing another sweater...unless of course it's the Winnipeg Jets. That would make for a classic storybook ending.

With this recent turn of events it appears this summer long saga may be drawing to a close. How do you feel about the whole thing? Are you tired of the drama? Or do you not care because of what Teemu has meant to the Ducks and the city of Anaheim.

Let me know what you guys think. What would you do if you were Selanne?
