There has been plenty of talk concerning the Calgary Flames` Jarome Iginla of late, and it seems the notion of trading their long-standing captain is starting to become more real than fans may want to believe.

A few reports around the hockey world, specifically TSN, have recently reported that the Boston Bruins have also shown interest in the ageing star.

While Iginla may be at the tail end of his career, he still has plenty left in the tank to offer to a cup contending team, especially one who may be one top six player short of increasing their odds exponentially. The Bruins are left with much of the core which won them the cup just a few years ago, and many seem to think that the addition of a star, especially one with character like Iginla, would be enough to put them over the top. This potential trade scenario then begs the question; do the Bruins have enough depth in their system, especially down the middle, to entice the Flames to move an important player like Iginla.

Although this is nothing but speculation and reason for discussion, the Flames management must be circling in their board rooms mulling over the potential deal as their core players begin to age and team displays many inconsistencies. The Flames still have a strong supportive group throughout their roster, and have players beginning to break out, although at the time that the younger players really begin to emerge it will likely be too late for players like Iginla to cash in on their success.

The Flames are not in a position where they will be rebuilding their roster, as we`ve discussed, though given their desire to retool and tweak their roster in an effort to reconstruct their strengths, time is not on their side.

Calgary continues to play well of late, something most fans feel will recess any thoughts of moving star players. I am not so sure that even if the team continues to trend upward, that Feaster and Co. wouldn’t entertain a deal which helps them in the long run.

That`s all for tonight, thanks for reading!
