Without hockey, many charitable organizations are suffering. One here on Long Island is the American Red Cross. The NY Islanders made the committment to helping them for the next three years by hosting blood drives. They are not backing out of their committment simply because the barn is dark.

So get up early Saturday morning, October 20th, and head to the Coliseum from 9 am - 3 pm where the Red Cross will be presenting all donors with a voucher for two tickets to a future Islanders home game. You know.... whenever the hell that is.

To sweeten the deal, donors will also receive a $10 coupon to the team store to be used on Saturday. At the NHL Draft Party in June, Islander fans donated over 275 pints of blood which set a new team record. (Even more than that Pens game!)

Sparky and the Ice Girls will be there to party and there will be a raffle for a game-used jersey from John Tavares. Food and beverages will be available for purchase so you can linger and talk to your Islander friends.

Schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-Red Cross (1-800-733-2767). You could even have a chance to win an overnight package to a game. There are a few other great give-aways too. But the greatest give-away of all is the one you'll be giving to save a life.

They say we bleed orange & blue. Let's see if we can just bleed.

Sideboard:
Call me a skeptic, but after today's PR battle I am back to my state of despair. I was wondering how many other Islander fans have similiar feelings. Now, I'm not going to take sides because that just starts angry yelling matches. I have believed all along, both sides are at fault. We are just on the sidelines -- waiting... waiting... and now, waiting until tomorrow in Toronto for the next wave to hit.
