First off a big hat tip goes to Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press for putting this bit on Kane out some 40 minutes ago via Twitter. The offer from the Winnipeg Jets to Evander Kane is for 6 years at 29 million dollars. No details of year over year salary or bonus is available but it would appear that Kane has received an offer of nearly 5 million per season for the next six years.

Much like team mate Ondrej Pavelec, Kane's offer does not work out to a neat round amount of 5 million per year but perhaps that's where this whole discussion ends. Lawless also gave some comparison contract reference too when he showed Tavares at 6 years and 33 million. Consider Tavares' last season and if that's any sign as to what Kane can produce or will... Jets fans will be very happy.

Coincidentally it took Ryan Kesler his contract after the offer sheet fiasco with the Flyers to sign a 5 year deal worth 30 million which began at age 26. Kane's starts at age 21 should it be finalized.

The interesting point about this news is the timing. Much speculation has been made since the Weber offer that Kane may be a prime target and perhaps he is. It's also reasonable to speculate that Kane's offer is let out to a trusted media member as a warning shot across the bow to any suitors of Kane that the Jets are prepared to pay and will because you won't get him cheap. It's probably a smart move and it puts the pressure clearly back in the camp of Kane to hammer it out as this is not an unreasonable offer.

The other news of note for the Jets is the dismissal of all charges, save one, to Dustin Byfuglien from his boating arrest last summer. In what appeared to be a very set and methodical attempt by the DA to get the case to court the last motion by Buf's lawyer convinced the judge to throw out the case and accept a plea bargain for reckless boating. Byfuglien receives a 30 days sentence with 28 days suspended and means he must do two days of service in some capacity.

In other news Mark Flood has signed with Lokomotiv of the KHL and will not be returning to the Winnipeg Jets next season. While Flood provided some necessary help it was hard to see he had much of a future going forward with the team as the Jets settled into their own vision and dynamic. As Zach Bogosian tweeted today, Flood will be missed for his great sense of humour by his team mates and that's never an easy thing to lose for any club.

The big news is that there is news on Kane's deal and even the most worriesome of Jets's fans should go to bed tonight confident that there is some easily attainable middle ground for the team to reach with the star winger.
