Does a Team Saying "We Will Match Any Offer" Kill Offers? Kane?... |

Quick hit after attending a family funeral today.
I have been getting inundated with sources telling me to expect an Evander Kane offer sheet next and other RFA's could be following. Early this morning I had written I would talk about Evander Kane and offer sheets, and before I could even put the blog together the Jets, through the media, made sure it was known they would match any offer.
It always interests me when teams come out and say this. You know it is meant as a deterrent...basically a team's way of saying, "Don't even think about it!" And yet teams still have every right to put offer sheets together as we have seen with Philly.
I really don't think a team saying they will match any offer does anything to quell offers, but it sure can paint a team into a corner. Fact is a GM can't really say he will match ANY offer. Let's say a rival club, hearing the Jets will match any offer, were to offer Kane 12years at $12M per...just to screw with the salary structure of the Jets....
So, while a team can act all tough and say they will match any offer, the offers will still come. Especially now with the impending CBA.
So where might an Evander Kane offer sheet arrive from?
I have heard Montreal, Buffalo, and Chicago...more to come...
