Tick Freakin' Tock Nassau

Another article in Newsday regarding the Nassau Coliseum saga by Randi F. Marshall and Robert Brodsky graced pages A8 & A9 of the Suffolk edition of Newsday this morning. (subscription reequired: http://www.newsday.com/sports/hockey/islanders/coliseum-plan-needed-soon-observers-say-1.3715942) Both Newsday reporters have done an excellent job staying on top of this story from as many angles as they can find and I have absolutely no problem with the way they are covering the story or the way it is written.

Nope. But I have some questions and comments about a few things in the article.

First of all, Kevin Law, Long Island Regional Economic Development Council co-vice chairman mentioned that along with cash there needs to be a willingness from TOH officials to make changes to the development zone. Um, haven’t I read that TOH said they DID make changes to the zoning? Or is that Kate Murray speak for ‘I changed things enough to make a statement but not enough to make a difference.”

According to the article Ms. Murray said the town will be flexible. BWAAHHHAAAA… Right. Just as flexible as you’ve been all along or with other developers in your town?

I was surprised to see that the State of NY has $750 million in funding for economic development projects. Even more surprised that last year Long Island projects won $101.6 million of last year’s budget. Wow.

I am happy to read that Mangano has not given up hope in keeping the Islanders, but I think hope is fading fast all over the Island. This just keeps dragging on with no happy ending in sight.

Anyone else (other than County officials) know that Mangano killed the RFP effort for the site in February? So no one is really looking at options for the site right now. Okay, again, Tick Freakin’ TOCK!

I DID like the fact that other Long Island site options were mentioned -- including Suffolk, which I have been mentioning for years. And lastly, the quote from Mangano saying that the Coliseum is the old, dull beat-up quarter compared to the shiny new one in Brooklyn. Well, Ed, considering the finances of Nassau County -- you’re the old beat-up penny. And we know what that’s worth.

Side note: Leave Andy Pettit alone.

Hockey Side Note: Rangers vs. Devils tonight pits two of the games greatest goalies against each other for the change to challenge for the Stanley Cup. As much as it pains me to say this -- Does it GET any better than that
