Stars look to build momentum

The Dallas responded well by bouncing back from a 4-1 win loss in Anaheim Wednesday with a solid 3-0 win in San Jose the next night. Now they need to build some momentum off that win over the Sharks. That starts tonight when they play the Edmonton Oilers at the American Airlines Center.

The Stars have been plagued by inconsistency over the past several weeks and the result has been an 11-11-0 record over the last 22 games.

The Anaheim loss, which led to a long closed-door meeting, was a huge disappointment for the Stars. They had a couple of days to prepare for the Ducks game, which they considered a measuring stick game. They didn’t measure up well.

They responded well the next night in San Jose. It was one of their best all-around games of the season against a quality opponent.
The win over the Sharks was impressive, but one game doesn't signify a turnaround. That’s why tonight’s game against Edmonton and the games coming out of the All-Star break will tell a lot about where the Stars stand.

After the break they have road games against Chicago and Colorado. Then it's Nashville and San Jose at home and back on the road for a three-game trip to Western Canada for games against the Canucks, Oilers and Flames.

That's a tough stretch of hockey and it should be a good indicator of how much the win over San Jose means in a bigger picture.

Center Mike Modano is still out. Stars coach Dave Tippett said he will return when he is healthy. Forward Steve Ott is getting closer to a return from his fracture ankle. He could be back by the end of the month.
