Oilers Deal Gilbert for Schultz

A bit of a surprise here, but there are reasons for it. The Oilers D has been terrible this season, so you knew changes were coming.

The Edmonton Oilers have dealt defenseman Tom Gilbert to the Minnesota Wild for Nick Schultz. Why?

- The Oilers are bad defensively, and Schultz is a safe, dependable defenseman.

- Gilbert, while being a decent puck-mover, seems to be on the ice for a great many soft goals.

I heard a few days ago the Oilers wanted to balance out their defensive roster between puck-movers and defensive defensemen. The emergence of Jeff Petry made Gilbert available. Puck movers now include Petry, Whitney and Potter. Defensive guys include Smid, Schultz and Sutton. Overall, it's hoped this will be a more balanced group.

Can't say I think this is a good deal or a bad deal. More "wait and see" if you ask me.
