A rather wacky game last night at Bridgestone Arena as the Nashville Predators took a 5-2 decision over the Carolina Hurricanes. The game really wasn't as close as the score indicated, Nashville jumped out to an early lead and didn't give up a goal until the game was out of reach for the 'Canes.

The Nashville power play was clicking, going 4-5 with the man advantage. Shea Weber got the scoring started with one of his patented blue line blasts. Patric Hornqvist scored two and and rookie Ryan Ellis got his first NHL goal

While Hornqvist seemed to accept it gracefully... I am still trying to understand the call on Patric's would be hat trick goal. The call on the ice was a good goal. I don't see the convincing video evidence to overturn that call. I mean, since when is a hockey stop a kicking motion? Credit where it is due, at least the war room in Toronto has consistently made that kind of call this season.

The unsung hero of last nights contest has to be Mike Fisher, he generated three assists an at least five more scoring chances with his spirited play. It's games like this that show the value of a Fisher to this Predators team.

The Predators leave for Colorado on Monday for the first of a home and home against the Avalanche

Random Notes

- The Predators scored four power play goals in a game for the first time since 2005.

- Barry Trotz was none too pleased with the NHLPA’s decision that results in a delay in realignment. His comments yesterday were very clear about that.

- The Predators stand 6th in the Western Conference with 48 points 5 behind division leader St. Louis, 4 behind Chicago and behind Detroit.

- Congratulations to Jarome Iginla on getting his 500th NHL goal last night

- St. Louis has taken full advantage of their home schedule so far, leveraging it to take the lead in the Central with 53 points. Their home record is 17-3-2.

- Shane Doan tallied the first hat trick of his illustrious career last night.
