The Nashville Predators are back on the ice today, with a twist. The team will have an open practice at A-Game in Cool Springs. It is part of a day-long event at the facility that includes a public skate from 1pm-3pm, the practice session from 3pm – 5pm and a player autograph session from 5pm-6pm. There is a $7 public skate fee and a portion of that fee will benefit the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. It should be a fun way to wrap up the holiday season.

The team has two home games this week, Thursday against Dallas and Saturday versus Carolina. Limited tickets available to the Carolina game, there is a little more flexibility in availability for Thursday, but it is a College Night and those games tend to have a very strong walk up. I expect the sold out streak to continue this week.

Random Notes

- The Predators stand at 7th in the West, one point behind St. Louis, and one ahead of Colorado.

- Getting the new year started, the peloton consists of four teams chasing the top eight. San Jose, Dallas, Phoenix and Calgary with only four points separating 12th from 8th, Edmonton is teetering on the edge of joining the bottom group, ten points out of 8th.

- Congratulations to the City of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Flyers and the Philadelphia Phillies. What a great weekend in the City of Brotherly Love, topped off by a really good hockey game. Almost 100,000 attended the two major events at Citizen’s Bank Park.

- There were other hockey games last night, including the first game on the newly rechristened NBC Sports Network. They got a good one as San Jose beat Vancouver in a shootout. Other winners last night, Ottawa, Edmonton and Colorado.

- The whole language thing in Montreal is simply amazing to me. Now the GM is apologizing for hiring the coach? So the most important thing is the language the coach speaks, not his coaching ability? Talk about majoring in the minors.
