At about 8pm on December 8, Pred Nation was wondering if this was the season that finally proved the naysayers right. The season where the all the negative preseason prognostications would prove true. Their team appeared to be on their way to a disheartening loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets that would solidify their position in the bottom of the playoff pack. Instead that may have been the moment the Predators turned their season around. If not the season, at least the month of December, that win has been the catalyst for a five game win streak that has featured great play, great special teams and the resilience that has become the team’s calling card. Only one of those things was in evidence last night at Bridgestone Arena as the Nashville Predators defeated St. Louis Blues 2-1 in a shootout.

The Predators were outshot, outplayed and generally bottled up all game as Ken Hitchcock’s team played out a familiar plan. The two goaltenders kept zeros on the scoreboard until the last few minutes of the game when each one blinked, making the score 1-1 heading into overtime. An overtime that was the best action of the game, five minutes without a stop as the teams flew up and down the Bridgestone Arena ice. The shootout ensued… and after five fruitless attempts, the game was on the stick of David Legwand who roofed the game winner.

By all accounts, the room was not happy post game. The Predators know their crime, they simply stole two points last night. It is often said that you know you are doing well when you can win a game that you haven’t played well. Last night made two in a row, against Central Division foes. Not bad at all…

The Predators are off today, they will practice Monday before a quick trip to DC to take on the Washington Capitals on Tuesday.

Random Notes

- I would like to congratulate the St. Louis Blues on being choirboys last night. That can be the only excuse for them being given six power play opportunities to the Predators… ummm… none.

- Last night’s win brought the Predators record against the Central up to 5-1-2. It also elevated their home record to 8-5-3.

- I think it can be said that Pekka Rinne is officially back… last night was classic Rinne. You could see the Blues players trying to aim a little too much as he continued to make save after save.

- The coaching carousel continues to twirl. Darryl Sutter in for the Kings, Jacques Martin out in Montreal.

- Yikes, the Philadelphia Flyers came crashing down yesterday getting smoked 6-0 on home ice by Boston… and add another injury to the pile as rookie Sean Couturier was hit in the ear by a puck late in the first period. No prognosis yet…

- The drama in Phoenix is over… no, not that drama… Kyle Turris has finally been traded.
