Game Night in the Desert

It’s Game Night in the desert as the Nashville Predators are in Glendale to take on the Phoenix Coyotes. The Deaert Dogs are off to a better start than predicted and riding a modest three game winning streak, their last win being a surprising one in overtime against Pacific power Los Angeles. Playing in Arizona has always been dicey for the Preds, they have a 9-13-2 record in the desert, splitting the season series at Jobing.com Arena.

Pred Nation is certainly happy at the news of Sergei Kostitsyn and Mike Fisher traveling with the team. Both players are listed as probable for tonight’s tilt, welcome news for a team that needs the firepower. Nick Spaling remains on IR. The Coyotes list Cal O’Reilly as questionable and Michal Rozsival as out. Word in local media is that Cal O’Reilly could make his Coyotes debut tonight, but will be a day of game decision.

Phoenix was in Denver last night and beat the Avalanche as Phoenix netminder Mike Smith stoned the Av’s with 39 saves. The Preds arrived in Glendale yesterday evening. Smith has been awesome in net since getting spanked in his first start of the season. After getting shellacked by San Jose, Smith has posted a 4-0-1 record and a .934 save percentage.

Game time is 9pm CT with coverage on Fox Sports Tennessee and 102.5 the Game.

Random Notes

- Nice article in today’s Tennessean about Preds skills coach Shawn Allard.

- Movember is underway and the moustaches are starting… check out AJ’s at Predators AJenda. BTW, it’s always a good read too.

- The Flyers jumped all over the Sabres last night, going up 2-0 in the first two minutes and chasing Ryan Miller after their third goal… then hung on for the win.

- Joffrey Lupul took advantage of a very rusty Martin Brodeur last night, torching the future hall of famer for a hattie.

- Why am I not surprised that Blackhawk agitator Dan Carcillo used to be an altar boy?
