A quick check-in today.

Tonight’s SlapShot Radio will be a good one, we’ll talk fighting and discipline with the editor-in-chief of Yahoo’s hockey blog Puck Daddy, Greg Wyshynski… we always enjoy his particularly twisted take on things. Then we will preview tomorrow night’s Canucks / Predators game, their first since last year’s Western Conference Quarter Final matchup with Jeff Paterson from the Team 1040 in Vancouver. Please join us at 6pm on 102.5 the Game.

Random Notes

- Reports from yesterday’s practice indicated a spirited session, but no bag skate. Saving it for later I guess… Jim Diamond over at the Examiner has a good write up on it.

- The message boards are lighting up with panicked members of Pred Nation. This certainly isn’t the worst five game start in team history, it ain’t the best either… Looking back, the Preds started have started their first five games with four points five out of the last six seasons including this one.

- HBO’s Real Sports put their two cents in on the enforcer/death debate. They really added nothing new and frankly didn’t seem to come to any conclusions.

- The “Off the Schnide” watch – Columbus is the only winless team left in the NHL.

- The “First Blood” watch – Washington and Detroit are the only unbeaten teams left in the league. Philadelphia and Toronto(!) are unbeaten in regulation.

- The focus of the hockey world is on Toronto tonight as the Leafs welcome the Winnipeg Jets to the ACC.

- Nice tribute in Vancouver last night for Rick Rypien including a $50,000 donation in Rypien’s name to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Search for @PredPAPaul… Not only will I be updating when I get news or updates, but we are having a bit of fun by getting your input on Gnash introductions, weigh in on Twitter and who knows, we may use your introduction for the best mascot in the NHL at the next Preds game!
