I’m very excited to announce the fourth season of SlapShot Radio, the puck drops on October 5th at 6pm central time on the new home of SlapShot Radio… 102.5 the Game! Pete Weber and I have been busily planning another great season of hockey talk and fun features for you and now we are on the Predator’s flagship station!

So please… make sure you join us… same day, same time, different station… SlapShot Radio’s season premier is Wednesday night, October 5th at 6pm. Sorta off topic… but not really… The music/hockey connection is strong in Nashville. From long time season ticket holders like Barbara Mandrell, Taylor Swift, Kelly Pickler and Amy Grant to Pred fans like Garth Brooks, Keith Urban and Brad Paisley. The music community is out in full force, nowhere was that shown more than last February when day one season ticket holder and frequent musical guest Vince Gill invited his golfing buddy (and Phoenix Coyote fan) Alice Cooper to join him onstage between periods. The version of Schools Out brought the house down as a Nashville/Detroit game turned into a rock concert.

The unusual pairing drove Alice to invite Vince to play on his new album that he was recording in Nashville with his long time collaborator, legendary producer Bob Ezrin. Country picker and shock rocker… Yikes!

The result of that bizarre combination was released on an unsuspecting world last week. Alice Cooper’s “Welcome 2 My Nightmare,” a sequel if you will, to Alice’s 1975 classic album “Welcome to My Nightmare,” or as Alice calls it “the Shriek-quel.” The album features other guests as well, including Nashville native Ke$ha and original Alice Cooper band members Denis Dunaway, Michael Bruce and Neal Smith.

The album has hit the Billboard charts as his highest charting album in over 20 years, and deservedly so. I’ve been an Alice fan since seeing him at the Tower Theatre on the Billion Dollar Babies tour, he has always been a fine musical craftsman that sometimes gets lost in all of the theatricality, that being said, this is a worthy successor to the original. The characters introduced in the original album have appeared in Alice’s subsequent work and they are tightly woven throughout this journey into Stephen’s nightmare world.

The album has been spinning on my MP3 player since downloading it yesterday… it is Alice’s best work in a long time. Producer Bob Ezrin has always gotten the best out of Alice and this work is no exception. Accessible pop, a twisted sense of humor, recurring themes and typical Alice bombast runs all through this record. My personal favorites … The Congregation, A Runaway Train (with Vince Gill), and the first single I’ll Bite Your Face Off. The collaboration with Ke$ha (What Baby Wants) has hit written all over it. The bonus tracks of Under the Bed and a live version of Poison are excellent.

The album is available now from Amazon or Alice’s website… It’s a must for any Alice fan.

Random Notes

- Practice schedule today… Group One is on the ice from 9:30 – 11am, Group two is on from Noon – 1:30pm. Training camp takes place at Centennial Sportsplex.

- Blake Geoffrion is out for about two weeks with a wrist injury suffered in last Monday’s game in Florida.

- Nick Spaling is back after recovering from a groin issue. He took part in a full practice yesterday.

- Josh Cooper has an excellent profile of Chris Mueller in today’s Tennessean.

- Very insightful piece from David Boclair in the CityPaper regarding the RFA issue from last June/July…

- Wishing Mike Modano well as he goes into retirement. His has had an outstanding career that is certainly Hall of Fame worthy.

- Jody Shelley should get suspended for his hit on Darryl Boyce last night… paging Mr. Shanahan…

- Bad news for former Pred goaltending prospect Mark Dekanich, he suffered a high ankle sprain that will keep him out of the Blue Jackets lineup for about four weeks.

- Please, if you haven’t had the chance… drop a small donation to the Andie and Alex Belak Scholarship Fund. Checks should be made payable to Woodmont Christian Church/Belak and sent to 3601 Hillsboro Pike, Nashville, TN 37215.
