In what has been a week (and entire summer) of unrelenting tragedy and mourning in the hockey world, let's focus today on a few positive things as training camp draws near.

First of all, Chris Pronger is ready to begin the next phase of his recovery from back surgery when he takes to the ice today to skate for the first time this summer.

Second. there was some good news yesterday as Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren was released from Cooper University Hospital in Camden, following his bicycle accident on Labor Day. Holmgren hopes to be able to make his usual rounds during training camp, although obviously he will be on the mend for awhile from the broken bones and cuts he suffered.

In addition, the Flyers have announced their rookie camp schedule and roster. The on-ice time for the rookies will be as follows:

Monday, Sept. 12
10 a.m. – Noon

Tuesday, Sept. 13
9 a.m. – 11 a.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 14
11 a.m. – Noon

Thursday, Sept. 15
Rookie Game vs. Washington Capitals Rookies – 5 p.m. (Wells Fargo Center)

Everyone will rejoice if this year's game is not affected by the technical difficulties that prevent last year's broadcast of the Rookie Game from going off line. The Flyers also had the good sense not to ask me to work on the broadcast team for the Rookie Game (as I did in the 2009 installment). Broadcasting is most definitely not my forte.

In the 2009 game, James van Riemsdyk's four-goal performance made it very easy to find something to talk about as the game progressed. This time around, all eyes will be Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier.

Finally, the AHL announced yesterday the the 2012 All-Star Game will be held in Atlantic City at Boardwalk Hall. The Skills Competition will be held on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 3 p.m. and the All-Star Game will be held the following night at 7 p.m. Tickets go on sale Monday, September 12 at the Boardwalk Hall box office or through Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets cover admission to both events ($52 for seats on the glass, $37 for lower-level seats and $32 for upper-level).
