Quick Hits: April 28, 2024

1) The schedule for the best-of-five Atlantic Division seminal playoff series between the Lehigh Valley Phantoms and the Hershey Bears is as follows:

Wed May 1 at Giant Center (Hershey)
Sat May 4 at Giant Center
Wed May 8 at PPL Center (Allentown)
Sat May 11 at PPL Center - if necessary
Mon May 13 at Giant Center -- if necessary

2) On Sunday evening, the Washington Capitals will try to stay alive in their first-round Stanley Cup playoff series against the New York Rangers. This game has potential bearing on the Phantoms vs. Hershey series. If the Capitals are eliminated on Sunday, they would likely send some reinforcement to Hershey for their playoff series. If the series is extended to Game 5, the fifth game would
overlap
with the first game the Bears play against the Phantoms.

3) Today in Flyers History: April 28

* 1985: Pelle Lindbergh makes a second period Ilkka Sinisalo goal stand up as Philly skates to a 1-0 win over the New York Islanders to close out the Patrick Division Finals, four games to one. Lindbergh stops all 25 shots he faces. It's his second shutout of the series.

* 1995: Two goals and an assist from Rod Brind'Amour elevate the Flyers to a 4-3 road win over the Hartford Whalers. Two games remain in the lockout-shortened and belated regular season.

* 2006: Trailing 2-0 to the Buffalo Sabres in Game 4 of their first-round playoff series, Peter Forsberg almost singlehandedly wills Philly to a 5-4 comeback win to tie the series at two games apiece. Forsberg posts two goals and an assist. The turning point of the game: Forsberg carries the puck into the offensive zone and literally goes 1-on-5. Stickhandling all the way around the offensive zone, Forsberg dangles around all five Buffalo skaters. The Hall of Fame center then feed an open Eric Desjardins and Desjardins scores from the point. This play causes a huge momentum shift in the game. In a losing cause, Daniel Briere scores twice for Buffalo.

4) Flyers Alumni birthday: Mel Bridgeman turns 69 years old today. He was born on April 28, 1955 in Trenton, Ontario, but primarily raised in Thunder Bay and then in Victoria, British Columbia.
