Looks like the home preseason calendar is set...

Sat. 9/24 vs Winnipeg
Wed. 9/28 vs Washington
Sat. 10/1 vs Carolina

Season schedule is out at 1pm CDT.

----------------------------------

- The Nashville Predators went 0-4 last night at the NHL Award Show, not entirely surprising, but I did expect at least one to come through. I’m trying to remember the last time a defenseman with a +/- in minus territory won the Norris…

- I’m also trying to figure out how Pittsburgh’s Kris Letang got two first place votes. There are two voters that believe Letang had a better year than Chara, Weber and Lidstom?

- Pekka Rinne came in second in the Vezina balloting, even more interesting is that he came in 4th in the Hart voting, gaining one first place vote.

- Highlight of the show last night was John Hamm’s presenting… he was genuinely funny.

- The Tennessean’s Josh Cooper is reporting that the Predators will open their home schedule on Thursday night October 13th against Phoenix. The rest of the schedule will be released at 1pm today. I’ll have my annual schedule breakdown posted by tomorrow. It looks like the Predators will start the season on the road this year as the season will begin around October 6th.

- Shea Weber was named to the first team NHL All-Star team… the first time he has earned that honor. Pekka Rinne was named 2nd team goaltender as well.

- The new Predator logos are out and I like the update. A little simpler, and I absolutely love the secondary logo of the guitar pick with the suggestion of the Tennessee state flag. Nice!

- At least we got bumped for a good reason… SlapShot Radio got pre-empted last night for Vanderbilt’s CWS game against North Carolina, the ‘Dores won and will continue their Omaha run against Florida today.

- Tampa Bay’s Steven Stamkos is the cover boy for NHL ’12.

- The Winnipeg Name Game is getting a bit much. I know they don’t want to rush it, but c’mon gang… make the call, take the hit for not calling them the Jets and move on…

- Speaking of the newest addition to the NHL, Toronto GM Brian Burke really pissed off fans of the Winnipeg Whoevers by saying “It’s not a slam dunk, they could have sold the building out three times,” Burke said. “But that’s the first five years. That’s the easy part ... it’s harder if the team hasn’t won a championship in five years and you’re renewing all those things. That’s the test.” I understand that Burke is kinda raining on the parade, problem is… he’s right.

- Winnipeg opens the season at home against the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday October 9.

- The Stanley Cup champs open their season hosting Philly on Oct. 6.

- Speaking of Philly, the rumors are confirmed, the Flyers will host the Rangers in this year’s Winter Classic on January 2nd at Citizen’s Bank Park. Not sure why they wouldn’t play this one on New Year’s Day, and start it at 7:30pm. The NFL usually does not have a night game on the last day of their regular season.
