Before I get started, I’m asking for Pred Nation to keep our buddy Marshall in your prayers. You may remember that Marshall dropped the first puck at a game in March on the second Hockey Fights Cancer night. He is undergoing surgery today, and we are hoping for good things…

For the first time in the finals, the Stanley Cup will be in the TD Garden tonight. The Vancouver Canucks have the chance to shut up their critics for good by winning the first championship in their 40 year franchise history. Their 1-0 victory Friday night gave them some much needed wiggle room, if they don’t win it tonight, they still have another chance to do it on home ice Wednesday.

Watch for the first goal… between these two teams in the playoffs, the team scoring the first goal is a combined 21-3. Vancouver dropped game 6 against the Blackhawks and game two against the Predators when scoring first. Boston lost game 4 against the Lightning for their only loss when scoring first.

The home team has won every game in this series and I wouldn’t be surprised if these two exhausted teams are heading back across the continent one more time for an all-or-nothing showdown on Wednesday night.

Random Notes

- Preds assistant coach Peter Horachek, according to published reports, is no longer a candidate for the Dallas head coaching job.

- Looks like the Heritage Classic isn’t becoming an annual event yet. Not a bad call… keep it irregular and special.

- In my blog yesterday I wrote about the culture of the Vancouver Canucks. Another example… suspended defenseman Aaron Rome is proving he learned nothing from his suspension. His quote after practice yesterday… “If I could go back, I’d wish he didn’t get hurt but I don’t think it would change my decision on the play, I’ve got to step up and be physical, that’s part of my game. It’s just unfortunate.” How about not delivering the hit late Aaron? Sheesh…

- Congratulations to the Dallas Mavericks on winning their first NBA Championship last night.

- and while we are OT… Good Luck to the Vanderbilt Commodores baseball team off the College World Series.

- Tonight’s playoff schedule – Vancouver @ Boston – Canucks lead 3-2 – Coverage on NBC and CBC.
