Random Notes

- The rumor mill is going into overdrive as Nashville’s embarrassment of riches in blueline prospects is drawing lots of attention for potential deals. It is no secret that the Preds would like to get back into the first round of the upcoming draft.

- Nice article in yesterday’s Tennessean about Milwaukee head coach Lane Lambert. I expect him to be named Brent Peterson’s replacement as assistant coach.

- To those that think that the NHL disciplinary process isn’t important. There are many that believe (including the entire NBC broadcast team) that Alex Burrows should’ve been suspended for his munching on Patrice Bergeron’s finger in game one. If he was, things may have been very different in game two.

- Welcome to Thrasher fans looking for a new home. It’s a pretty easy jaunt up I-75, hang a left at Chattanooga on I-24… to get to Smashville. We’re glad to have you.

- A new blog covering the Preds is up, Amanda DiPaolo has been doing a great job at Predlines and she has decided to go independent with her new site Inside Smashville. She always has a good take… check it out!

- The Drive to 13,000 deserves a “Wow!” Winnipeg sold out their 13,000 season tickets by early on Saturday morning. True North was even smarter, selling spots on the “waiting list” for a $50 non-refundable deposit. A deposit that does not apply to any future ticket purchase! The wait list was capped at 8,000, which results in a $400,000 cash grab for True North. No one said these guys weren’t smart.

- The waiting list in Winnipeg will also have an annual $100 membership fee in order to maintain your place on the list. These monies are applicable to future ticket purchases but are not refundable if tickets are not bought. Another very smart move on the ownership’s part, tThey will get the float on the money collected. Considering almost $800,000 will be collected annually, the float will be a significant chunk of change.

- SCF Game Two TV ratings are out and the bottom dropped out. Down 27% from game one and 43% from last year. A lot of the drop had to do with the Saturday night slot, compared with last year’s Monday slot for game two. Game two still won the all-important 18-49 demo.

- What a monster goaltending battle in this series so far. Long time readers of this blog know that I am not a big fan of Roberto Luongo as a big game goaltender, he is rapidly turning me into a believer.

- The Vancouver crowd’s welcoming back of Manny Malhotra on Saturday night was simply amazing. Talk about the best medicine…

- Tonight’s playoff schedule – Vancouver @ Boston – Canucks lead 2-0 – 7pm CDT Versus and CBC
