Random Notes
- Minor move for the Preds yesterday as they acquired the 2013 7th round pick of the Washington Capitals for prospect Taylor Stefishen.
- The Drive to 13,000 is off to a slam bang start in the ‘Peg. As of 4:30pm yesterday they were at 4170, after only a day and a half. General public sales start tomorrow, I expect them to be sold out by Sunday.
- So, Alex Burrows get nothing for snacking on Bergeron’s finger. Hmmm… are we sure that Colin Campbell wasn’t involved in that decision? Or did he just pass the NHL’s ”Magic 8 Ball of Punishment” to Mike Murphy?
- SCF Game One TV ratings are out and wow… they were up! Color me shocked as I really expected the US ratings to drop with a Canadian team in the series, another indicator of hockey’s resurgence in the US.
- Critical piece of the ratings story is that NBC won the all-important 18-49 demo in the last hour of the game Wednesday night.
- Local ratings for Game One were excellent, drawing 3.3/5 share in the Nashville market, tying it with Philadelphia for 7th among US NHL markets, tied for 12th among all US markets. It’s kind of a shame that the local NBC station’s sports director can’t remember who was trying to buy the Preds four years ago, given that lots of hockey fans are watching their station! Smart hockey fans in Nashville know to go the WKRN after the game for the best, most knowledgeable hockey coverage.
- Brad Richards looks to hit the free agent market as the Dallas Stars appear to be shopping his negotiating rights to get something for their star player. It does bring into question Look for Dallas GM Joe Nieuwendyk to get hammered for not moving him at the trade deadline. It would be completely unfair to the GM, but that won’t stop the criticism.
- Tonight’s playoff schedule – None – Game two is tomorrow night.
