Random Notes

- We’re putting on the foil… tonight’s SlapShot Radio will be a pillar to post preview of the Western Conference Semi-Finals… join us at 6pm CDT on Sports Radio 560 WNSR, listen online at www.wnsr.com. I've got round 2 playoff tickets that are burning a hole in my pocket... might have to give some away tonight, so listen in!

- The Nashville Predators now know they will be taking on the number one seed, President Trophy winning Vancouver Canucks. Early this morning, the Canucks held off a furious Chicago rally and won their series with an overtime win over the Blackhawks, exorcising some demons of their own.

- Expect the Canucks/Predators series schedule to be out later this morning. All indications I’ve seen say Thursday/Saturday in Vancouver and either Mon/Wed or Tue/Thu in Nashville for the first four games.

- The return of Martin Erat is very good news for the Predators. He participated in a full practice yesterday and is ready to go for game one.

- The Predators will be taking off today for Vancouver.

- Roberto Luongo finally delivered a performance worthy of his reputation last night. I still wonder what kind of damage Alain Vigneault’s ill-advised start of Corey Schneider did to the team… and when it will rear its ugly head again.

- What a night in the NHL! Three really good games… two of them game sevens and two more tonight!

- The Philadelphia Flyers took advantage of a Buffalo team that had simply run out of bodies and run out of gas. Philly still has to figure out who their goaltender is, but Boucher only needed to be competent last night.

- Last night’s bench interview with Lindy Ruff was one of the more illuminating ones I have seen since the NHL started doing them. Not only the coach’s words, but his body language told the story that the Sabres were done. Usually I don’t like those in period interviews, but Darren Pang got a good one last night.

- Gotta give Derrick Roy full marks for coming back from injury to contribute in game seven last night. Going from IR to full tilt boogie is HARD! And Roy did a good job trying to help his Sabres stay in the game.

- I think you now know how to fire up the Flyer’s Danny Briere, talk about his divorce.

- Lauren Hart’s video duet with Kate Smith on “God Bless America” simply makes chills run down your spine, Flyer fan or not.

- Bell Centre was insane last night as the Montreal Canadiens finally won a home game, shipping the series up to Boston one more time for a game seven. Definitely need to have the picture in picture going tonight.

- I guess Colin Campbell will be pulling out the ole “Magic 8 Ball of Justice” today… Milan Lucic’s hit should be reviewed… and heaven only knows what the decision will be.

- The San Jose / Detroit series will also be a good one. The Sharks have their own demons to banish.

- I’ll have a full series preview in tomorrow’s post.

- Tonight’s playoff schedule – Montreal @ Boston – Series tied 3-3, 6pm CDT (Versus, CBC), Tampa Bay @ Pittsburgh – Series tied 3-3, 7pm CDT (Regional)
